|Guwahati, Jun. 14. 2017 The Don Bosco Alumni of Tura region held its annual meet on 10th June, 2017 in Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Tura. Since the meet was organized on the Diamond Jubilee year of the school it was called, ``Don Bosco Alumni Diamond Jubilee Meet 2017``. Shri Ambrose Ch Marak, Director of School Education and Literacy and Former President Don Bosco Alumni Association of Guwahati Province was the Chief Guest. |
|Clearly elated, Mr. Marak said that he attended the meet not as the chief guest but as a member of the Alumni. In keeping with the theme of the meet, ``Social responsibilities of the Don Bosco Alumni`` he urged the organization to give back to the society especially to the less privileged. He also said that in the numerous national meetings and intentional congresses, the world`s largest alumni always consider education as the priority responsibility. |
The main speaker on the occasion, Fr. CL Thomas SDB, former headmaster of the school stressed on the theme by drawing examples from the life of St. John Bosco himself and the story of Kiran Mehta who founded an organization to encourage people to lend a helping hand to people in need. He said that charity can be big or small, material or otherwise, words or deed. A simple smile or a kind gesture can make a difference in the life of a person.
During the discussion, that was chaired by Shri Alexander Kerketta, Vice-president of Don Bosco Alumni, members expressed the joy at the opportunity to meet old friends and classmates. They came up with valuable suggestions to response to the need in the society varying from tree plantation, to adopting a catchment area in the town, to raise funds to complete the Don Bosco Alumni School at Daren Agal, to sponsor education of unprivileged youth, to volunteering to take tutorial classes for students, to help raise fund for the construction of diamond jubilee memorial etc.
Earlier in his welcome speech and keynote address, Shri Jasper P Marak, President of Don Bosco Alumni, welcomed the quests and everyone to the annual meet. He expressed his happiness at the choice of the theme and urged everyone to learn from Don Bosco Himself who dedicated his whole life for the needy young boys.
The students of the school entertained their predecessors with music, songs and dance. One of the highlights of the meet was the basketball match between the past pupils and the present students. Proving that a learned skill remained forever, the past champions gave a good fight to the young players.
Shri Tangboi Singtho, Manager of the famed Shillong Lajong FC was visibly delighted to visit his home town after a long time. Having posted an aerial view of his Alma Mater the previous day and inviting everyone to attend the meet, he proudly recalled his formative years and thanked the then headmaster and teachers for playing a vital role in his life. Others too had similar stories. It was a meet to remember.
