SOCIAL FINANCIAL INCLUSION PROGRAMME - CARITAS (WEST ZONE)

The Social and Financial Inclusion programme has been under going much research and adaptation to the ever changing needs and requirements of the marginalized situations and the government and financial institutions mandates. It was first felt the need for a PAN Card as an identity document was essential for the poor. Much research in the rural areas and with urban poor reveled that it was an important identity document before the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) system was implemented by the Central Government. The PAN Card would now be used for those in the taxable income bracket. While it would cost around Rs.100/- to make a PAN Card. Those in the BPL (Below Poverty Line) Category would be paid Rs. 100/- by the UIDAI to register themselves. The Registrar agencies would be given Rs.50/- (as against Rs. 7/- to the Pan Card registering agency) for their services of registering and reaching out to these populations.

SPCSA ASSEMBLY CONCLUDES ON HIGH NOTE

The SPCSA Assembly concluded on September 4 at 7.00 p.m. It brought to a close three intense days of proceedings of the national Salesian assembly comprising 35 members in all - 11 Provincials, delegates from each province, and the Delegates of the approved Regional (South Asia) Salesian Bodies.

EDUCATION AND RIGHTS� KAWANT

Twenty-nine development staff from across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh met at DISHA Development Centre (Don Bosco Kawant) for a training session on the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) and the newly-enacted Right to Education (RTE). The centres represented were Kawant, Chhota Udepur, Kapadvanj, Alirajpur and Jhabua.

MMS ORIENTATION AT DBCL, KURLA

Don Bosco Centre for Learning, located on a sprawling Campus at Kurla has achieved yet another distinction. On August 24, 2010, Don Bosco Institute of Management & Research (a separate Management Institution of Don Bosco Institute of Technology ) was launched. It will be offering a full time 2-year M.M.S. Course which is A.I.C.T.E. approved and affiliated to the University of Mumbai. DBIMR is equipped with an excellent infrastructure. The current batch of students has a male: female ratio of 51:49. They represent various streams of undergraduate education.

SPCSA ASSEMBLY BEGINS IN MUMBAI

MUMBAI, September 2, 2010: The SPCSA Assembly is being held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Mumbai, from September 2-4, 2010. Fr Maria Arokiam, the Regional Councillor; the eleven provincials and their delegates; and some of the South-Asia coordinators delegates arrived yesterday.

FOUNDATION STONE FOR SENIOR COLLEGE LAID AT YERWADA

Don Bosco, Yerwada, today got a feather in the cap with the laying of the foundation stone for the Senior College by the Provincial Rev. Fr. Michael Fernandes. Don Bosco, Yerwada, began in the year 1971 with a very humble beginning. Today, it has a befitting edifice with students numbering a thousand nine hundred and forty from the KG to the Jr. College Arts, Science, Commerce and NIOS.

SECURING THE RIGHT TO FOOD

Many of the residents of Garib Niwas Nagar had reason to celebrate on Saturday, August 21, 2010 as their long cherished dream of owning a Ration Card, became a reality. Being pavement dwellers, with no proof of residence, securing a ration card was no simple task. After almost six months of struggle, the Development Office was able to secure this facility for forty one families. These cards were distributed to the respective families at a simple function, held at Provincial House, Matunga.

ANIMATION PROGRAM FOR THE SALESIAN FAMILY

The Salesian animation program for the members of the Salesian family was held on August 22, 2010 at Don Bosco Provincial house Mumbai. The animators were Rev Fr. Joaqim D`Souza Provincial of UPS and Fr. Elias Dias the Provincial delegate of the Salesian family Mumbai Province.

THE FIRST COMMITMENT DAY FOR ADMA

ADMA - The Association of Mary Help of Christians celebrated the Commitment made by twenty of its first Members on Saturday August 14, 2010. The occasion was even more special due to the presence of Fr. Klement Vaclav. They received their commitment at the 8.15 Mass.
